CTO (Chief Technology Officer)

Global Site Plans is seeking a hands-on technical guru to join as a Co-Founder and CTO (Chief Technology Officer). Global Site Plans offers branding services to small and medium-sized businesses in the field of environmental design (architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, urban planning and related fields). We also offer The Grid, our online news platform. With 1,500 original articles written by over 95 intern alumni and an organically grown social media presence (2,500 on Twitter, 2,000 on Facebook), we are seeking an individual who can take us from where we’re at and move us to our next juncture – redesign and redevelopment, which is already underway.

You should be able to identify key industry and startup technical and development trends to build, manage, and scale the startup’s technical operations. The CTO should passionately evangelize the company’s mission, vision, and opportunities to all potential partners and vendors. First and foremost, this company was created from passion, enthusiasm and the desire to connect global stories from local perspectives. You too should really believe and love what we have achieved in the last three years, while adding skills and maintaining a strong “why” for joining us.

The ideal candidate has a strong software background, preferably with Internet and Mobile media experience, with a track record of strong coding and individual technical accomplishments. You posses an entrepreneurial drive, and a demonstrated ability to achieve short and long-term goals in an innovative environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands on development in all areas, initially;
  • Writing and reviewing code is compulsory;
  • Coding and redevelopment of two new site designs;
  • Managing, directing and continually improving the company’s platform services;
  • API development;
  • Tracking, managing, and updating project/program plans and budgets;
  • Working cross functionally (managing up and down) to communicate engineering status;
  • Daily management of engineering product plans/schedule/backlog and resources;
  • Working with the CEO and key constituents to develop, manage and maintain the platform roadmap;
  • Ability to work with “non-technical” individuals; taking ideas and creating the tools/product necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years in media and/or online interactive space;
  • Minimum 2 years of coding and code review;
  • Experience working with a design team, with an eye for aesthetics;
  • Development skills applicable to web applications, mobile development, social media and general online;
  • Both the desire and ability to be a hands-on technical director are a must;
  • Previous experience working in a startup and entrepreneurial environment is a plus;
  • Reliability and quick turnaround on projects is a must.

Skills:

  • Strong grasp of cross-browser development;
  • Versed in coding standards-compliant semantic markup in XHTML/CSS;
  • Significant experience with HTML5/CSS3 in relation to web and mobile applications;
  • Ability to code an entire site for WordPress;
  • Experience with User Experience Design (UXD/UED) preferred;
  • Ability to develop mobile applications for iPhone & Android;
  • Experience in gamification;
  • Comfortable creating and implementing databases;

Global Site Plans is seeking a Community Moderator & Guest Blogger Editor to manage the translation and guest blogging program. This individual is responsible for communicating and approving pitched ideas, editing blogs, WordPress posting & formatting and implementing our Twitter marketing plan for these individuals. Furthermore, they will work directly with, and manage, a team of environmental news translators in a variety of languages including possibilities such as Turkish, German, French, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, Chinese and Japanese (Eight individuals at most). This intern will approve news pitches that were originally published in a language other than English, for translation and publishing on The Grid. Qualifications:

The Infographics Designer will be accountable for converting research data into infographics. This role requires gathering and translating data into a format that can be presented using a compact and creative approach that is engaging, easily understood, specific, relevant and accurate.

Arabic Language Translator & Content Coordinator

Global Site Plans is striving to bring foreign language environmental design news to its English-speaking audience. With The Grid’s focus on local, the Arabic Language Translator & Content Coordinator will be in charge of searching for architecture, structural/civil engineering, landscape architecture, urban planning and related fields news written in Arabic. Find news “gems” published from local perspectives, aligned with The Grid’s theme, translate the articles to English for our audience and prepare them for publication through WordPress. This position will require extensive research and networking through the Internet and social media.

Qualifications:

  • 6 month or 1 year commitment, contractually;
  • Excellent Arabic to English translation and writing skills;
  • Superb Internet research skills;
  • Uninterrupted Internet and computer access, must check email daily;
