Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) Conference: March 2012

The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA), an organization comprised of nearly every higher learning landscape architecture program in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, will be holding its annual conference at the University of Illinois March 28 – 31, 2012. The 2012 CELA Conference will provide educators, professionals in the field, and students the opportunity to explore and set goals for the direction of landscape architecture. Attendees are invited to participate in the many activities which include panel discussions, presentations, and informal networking.

According to Pat Taylor, a representative for the conference, although the annual meeting is for landscape architects in academic practice, it is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Pat related that so far nearly 400 Abstracts have been submitted for the 2012 conference. The Abstracts consist of current research, service, and teaching within the landscape architecture profession, and after peer review, the selected Abstracts will be presented at the conference. Abstract submissions are accepted through January 31, 2012.

Highlights of the 2012 CELA Conference will include relevant speakers and field tours. The locations of the annual CELA conferences are selected for their importance to the development of landscape architects. Past conferences have been held in Los Angeles, California; Vancouver, British Columbia; Maastricht, The Netherlands; Christchurch, New Zealand; and Tucson, Arizona. Overviews from past conferences provide insight into the content of the annual meetings.

Finding Center: Landscape & Values is the theme for the 2012 conference. Different interpretations and perspectives can be gathered from the theme itself. With this in mind, the 2012 Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture (CELA) conference should bring together a multitude of ideas for advancing the profession, both academically and professionally.
