Global Site Plans Farewell from Alexandria Stankovich

Detroit on the map

What is the future of Detroit? The answer to that question is deeply intertwined with its past, but also enlightened by its present. Global Site Plans offered me the platform to contribute. I am grateful for the opportunity to share in this dialogue and pose my own questions, such as: What encourages bicycle-use in your community? Do you agree that daylighting is a worthy venture for cities? How do we incorporate private ventures into our long-term planning for mobility and access? How does “temporary” play into our long-term visions?

Michigan Diag

These are only some of the questions. Detroit is complex. The conversation continues every day through social media, policy debate, private investment, and community action. I believe that urban planners can play a vital role; as educators, advocates, and listeners. For now, I am headed back to the classroom to complete my Masters in Urban Planning.  Writing for The Grid has been a fine journey and I appreciate Renee van Staveren’s mentorship along the way. Also, I thank my fellow bloggers for sharing this vibrant community with me.

If place making, infill development, and sustainable architecture are your passion as well, I am sure we will meet again later down the road.
