Comments on: Camlica Mosque to Mark Istanbul’s Skyline Branding for Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Non-Profits, Landscape Architecture, & Urban Planning Companies Wed, 26 Aug 2015 03:37:28 +0000 hourly 1 By: Libby Rodriguez Sun, 27 Oct 2013 12:15:20 +0000 To me, this is a political problem manifesting itself as an urban planning problem. Planners know that you need public involvement up front for a truly successful project. But, look what Erdogan did at Taksim/Gezi!! He set off RIOTS there by proposing a shopping mall in a public square! AND, it wasn’t just any shopping mall – bit, one in which his family had a financial interest(!)

This giant mosque is just “same problem, different day.” The government is being heavy-handed with the people’s city!

By the way, the term, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” comes to mind. Before the unrest started (because of the aforementioned mall project) Istanbul, Turkey was listed by several sources as THE top tourist destination.

The former Constantinople is an exciting historic city that already houses Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Hagia Sophia was built by the Emperor Justinian! Anyone can build a modern over the top monstrosity, but Istanbul already has one-of-a-kind gems. Why mess with perfection??? (Follow the money…)
